Not a lot of change in the weather pattern is seen for the next couple weeks except for there will be less rain.  Upper air progs suggest that the entire corn belt will see Below Normal temps for the next 10 days to two weeks.  Monday's crop progress report showed that we have 51% of the corn crop in the ground.  On average by May 12 we should have 77% of the corn crop in the ground.  There is talk that a large shift of acres to soybeans will occur now due to time running out for corn planting.  But with a lot of the corn acres being fertilized for corn production already and sizeable amounts of bushels being priced for fall delivery, adding a lot more bean acres is unlikely.  A record corn crop is now out the window.  Other years with similar planting delays occurred in 1991, 1993, 1995 & 1996. Three of those years saw way below average production while 96' was just slightly below average.  It is important now to have seasonal weather from here on out to salvage as close to trend line yields as possible out of the 2008 corn crop.  With record low stocks we can't afford a short crop next fall.
